Wordcamp London 2015

WordCamp is a conference all about WordPress and everything related to it web design, development, user experience, SEO, digital marketing, the list goes on…

London Wordcamp

WordCamps are held all over the world and we were privileged to sponsor and attend the London WordCamp held at London Metropolitan University from 20th – 22nd March.

It’s organised by volunteers who are passionate about WordPress and the WordPress community and attended by developers, designers and anyone who’s interested in the web.

The focus is on WordPress but there is so much more to the talks than good ol’ WordPress. For example, Brad Williams talk titled ‘Hiring Employee Number One: From Freelancer to Agency’ turned into an amazing story about how he took a leap of faith and built an amazing company called Web Dev Studios.

Our highlights

Below are some highlights (in chronological order) from our experience at WordCamp London 2015.

First talk by Laura Kalbag

The first talk from Laura Kalbag was a rip-roaring start with some solid UX advice.

Couldn’t help but be impressed at the Factory Pattern logo on the big screen! 🙂

Building a Scalable WordPress

Luke (@extracreativ) and Sophie (@plimbs) from News UK shared an excellent story about building 9 sites in 7 months using the WordPress platform. It was amazing to hear how they did it and even better to meet them after to let them know it was nice to hear such an honest and humble talk about what must have been a Mammoth task!

Easy, Lazy SEO

Jessica Rose was the next talk and delivered a very entertaining and informative talk on SEO.

Being totally distracted by design, I couldn’t help but be impressed with the swingy, table chairs – perfect for resting the iPad.

Inspired content marketing talk by Jon Buchan

Jon Buchan delivered a fantastic and inspirational talk on content marketing and showed how to do things truly differently. Very honest and just brilliant.

Bruce ‘almighty’ Lawson and the browser fairies

The most entertaining talk of the day by Bruce Lawson had us in stitches. His complex explanation of browser fairies was amazing and definitely taught us a thing or 2 about optimising images for the web.

Day 2

Hat, bag and scarf

It’s all about colour

The day kicked off with an insightful colour theory talk by Tammie Lister.

And the final talk

Brad Williams talk titled ‘Hiring Employee Number One: From Freelancer to Agency’ was an amazing story about how he took a leap of faith and built an amazing company called Web Dev Studios.

I’ll definitely be taking a few leaves out of Brad’s book.

An amazing conference, with some brilliant people

We will not hesitate to sponsor such an amazing event next year and can’t wait for the line up.

Good to see such a high caliber of speakers and a really enthusiastic community of developers, designers, marketers and WordPress lovers. Hope to see you there.
